OVERCOMING SEX ADDICTION

Masturbation, pornography, extra marital affairs, prostitution, cybersex, sexual harassment, rape, and premarital sex are various forms of sexual addiction. In essence, anyone who does not engage in physical sex but have a compulsive habit of viewing pornographic materials is a sex addict. A married man who still has extra marital affairs is a sex addict. A sex addict knows that he or she is at emotional, physical, financial, social and health risk but this engages in it. This is because they are now living under the control of their hormones.
As I tried to explain in my last article, you must understand that sex starts from the mind. Nothing just happens. Every problem has a solution but except a man finds that solution, he will continue to drown in ignorance. Many people are addicted to sex but do not know how to get out. This is what I intend to do in this article. You can be free from sexual addiction but there are steps you must take to enjoy this freedom.
Steps to freedom from Sexual Addiction
1. Accept that you are a sex addict: one of the undoing of sex addict is the refusal to accept that they have a problem, in all facets of life; self-deception tends to be more of a problem than addiction itself. Anyone who denies the fact that he or she has a problem is living a life of self-deception and that will ultimately lead to self-destruction (Romans 12:3)
2. Determination: Be determined to succeed at gaining freedom because that overcoming addiction is not always as easy as some people think. People who are addicted to sex have tried once or twice to gain freedom but failed. In order to gain freedom, you must make up your mind to work towards gaining freedom no matter what it takes (Daniel 1:8). The truth is that, no one becomes a sex addict all of a sudden and that is why you have to give yourself more than enough time to overcome your addiction. So much patience is required during this process of recovery
3. Burn and destroy every pornographic material-X rated movies, music videos, and play boy magazines. No one becomes a sex addict without first being addicted to pornography. So also, the most essential step in gaining freedom from sex addiction is by doing away with all every material that stimulates your sexual life (Matthew 6:20).
4. Turn your life over to Jesus because true and lasting freedom comes only from Him. Sex addict try very hard to overcome sex addiction but fail all the time. Determination and self-acceptance is not always enough to maintain a life of sexual purity. Only Jesus has the power to turn your life around and give you a heart of purity.
5. Renew your mind with the word of God and other Godly materials such as movies, books and tapes and find a bible believing church (Romans 12:2)
6. Avoid friends who encourage you to engage in illicit sex (Proverbs 1:11-15)
