OVERCOMING SEXUAL ADDICTION

According to the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, Addiction can be defined as the condition of being addicted to something (cocaine, alcohol,). Bear in mind that addiction can also be applied positively to life. One can be addicted to his or her vision in life. One could also be addicted to God. It also defined being addicted to mean being unable to stop taking harmful drugs, or using or doing something as a habit. This ultimately means you have lost control of your life, that something now controls you.
You must also bear in mind that no one becomes addicted to something or a habit over night. When people keep doing something amidst signals that they are doing the wrong thing, they eventually get addicted to that thing or habit. People who are addicted to sex tend to see women or men as sex toys and they continue to hurt other people emotionally and sometimes physically. There are people who get so addicted to sex to the point that they can have sex with their sister, brother, or even mother. The frightening thing is that both single and married people could be addicted to sex. A married man or woman who did not deal with their past sexual sins will continue to cheat on their spouse. He or she will still be compelled to pick up prostitutes for a nightstand. It is not surprising that a man would have sex with his secretary right on his office table or couch. A man who is addicted to sex finds it difficult to gain sexual satisfaction from his wife even if he has sex with her every day.
Note also that even a born again Christian who does not consciously deal with his or her sexual sins will continue to live a sinful life even though he or she might be born again. So many believers may be able to walk away from physical sex but might still be addicted to mental sex as well as pornography. Addiction to pornography is sexual addiction too. Get ready because God wants to heal you all round.
Addiction always starts once and then the corresponding action follows. For every action there is always a corresponding reaction.

Where It All Begins
Addiction to sex does not just happen; it always has a beginning point. A person gets addicted to sex by these processes.
1. Pornographic materials: When you are exposed to a pornographic movie, music video or magazine. What people must understand is that by watching R-rated movies, they are not just being entertained. Rather, their lives are been shaped.
2. Thought process: after you have seen the pornographic materials, the next thing that happens to you is that you begin to think about those thoughts consciously or unconsciously. The mental picture of that naked person you saw in a movie or magazine begins to envelop your mind and you might begin to dream of having sex with that person
3. Hormone Stimulator: as we said earlier, to every action there must be a corresponding reaction. I used to believe that a man can be stimulated for sex without an action until I knew that truth. Hormones can’t act on its own. They are either activated by a pornographic scene-billboards, magazines, movies or posters of naked women.
4. Practice time: the next thing that happens is that you will find someone to practice your thoughts on. This is the point where you lost control and sex gains control of you. At this point in time, you need help to break free from this sin.
In the follow up articles, I would talk about the price of sexual addiction and finding freedom from sexual addiction.
